L’Asiago Hockey 1935 ha raggiunto l’accordo che legherà Frédéric Cloutier alla compagine giallorossa. Sarà dunque l’italo-canadese di St-Honorè a difendere la gabbia dei Leoni nella prossima stagione.
Frédéric Cloutier, nato a St-Honorè nel Quebec il 14 maggio 1981, è alto 183 cm e pesa 82 kg. Il nuovo portiere stellato ha una lunga carriera alle sue spalle, che inizia, nell’hockey che conta, nella miglior lega giovanile del Quebec, la QMJHL. In questa lega vi milita per tre anni, i primi due con l’Acadie-Bathrust Titan e l’ultima con Shawinigan Cataractes. Dal QMJHL Cloutier passa ai Louisiana IceGators in ECHL, dove, nella sua prima stagione vince praticamente tutto a livello individuale, aggiudicandosi il premio di Rookie of the year, il premio come most valuable player, nonché il premio di miglior portiere. Dal 2002 al 2007 il quèbècois si divide tra AHL (con gli Houston Aeros, i Bridgeport Sound Tigers e i Milwaukee Admirals), ECHL (con i Lousiana IceGators, i Pensacola Ice Pilots) e UHL (con i Rockford IceHogs). Dopo l’avventura americana, in cui Cloutier ha fatto registrare sempre numeri molto elevati, per lui arriva il momento di trasferirsi in Europa. Nel vecchio continente il goalie veste la maglia dei Rittner Buam per le prime 4 stagioni dove aiuta la sua squadra a conquistare l’accesso a due finali scudetto, risultando sempre uno dei migliori portieri della Serie A. Nelle quattro stagioni disputate in Italia non è mai sceso sotto il 92% di parate nella regular season, nella prima stagione arrivando addirittura a parare con la media stellare del 93,7%. Nel 2011 inizia la stagione nella lega nordamericana LNAH, dove disputa solo due partite, prima di tornare in Europa, questa volta per giocare due stagioni nella EBEL austriaca con i Graz 99ers. Nella prima stagione a Graz gioca 16 partite, parando con una media del 92,6%, mentre nella seconda stagione disputa 40 partite di regular season, nelle quali registra una media parate del 92,1%, e 5 di playoff, parando col 91%. Nella stagione 2013/2014 si trasferisce in Germania, nella DEL2, dove inizia la stagione con i Starbulls Rosenheim, prima del passaggio ai Bietigheim Steelers. Nelle ultime due stagioni Cloutier ha giocato in Finlandia per i KooKoo di Kouvola. Nella prima stagione Cloutier e compagni giocano nella Mestis (seconda lega finlandese), raggiungendo la finale del campionato. In quella stagione il neo portiere Giallorosso ha parato col 92,6% nelle 33 partite di regular season e con l’incredibile media del 94,8% in 9 partite di playoff. Nella scorsa stagione i KooKoo giocano in Liiga (prima lega finlandese), nella quale Cloutier dimostra di essere un portiere di alto livello parando col 91,9% in 28 partite giocate. Nel 2016 il portiere canadese ha acquisito il passaporto italiano, venendo così convocato da Stefan Mair per disputare il mondiale in Polonia con la nazionale azzurra, occasione nel quale Cloutier si è alternato a difesa della gabbia con Andreas Bernard.
Renato Tessari, DS giallorosso, si dichiara soddisfatto: “avevamo diverse possibilità per questo ruolo, ma quando si è presentata l’occasione di firmare con Cloutier non ce la siamo fatta sfuggire. Per noi è un accordo importante, che porta ad Asiago un portiere di assoluto livello e con un grande bagaglio di esperienza, che sicuramente farà comodo ad una squadra giovane come la nostra”.
Cloutier oltre ad essere il goalie titolare per gli Stellati in Alps Hockey League sarà anche a disposizione del settore giovanile, dove aiuterà i giovani portieri a crescere. Sarà anche un modello da imitare e seguire per i due giovani back ups Mantovani e Stevan. Non ci resta che dare il benvenuto al nostro nuovo goalie, welcome to Asiago, Freddy!

Frédéric Cloutier, born in St-Honore in Quebec on May 14, 1981, is 183 cm tall and weighs 82 kg. The new goalie has a long career, which began in QMJHL, the best Quebec’s junior league. In this league he played for three years, the first two with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and the last with Shawinigan Cataractes. In the 2013 he moved to Germany, in DEL2, where he started the season with the Starbulls Rosenheim, before changing team and going to play for the Bietigheim Steelers. Cloutier in the last two seasons played in Finland for KooKoo, team based in Kouvola. In the 20014/2015 season, KooKoo played in Mestis (the second Fininish League) reaching the final of the championship. In that season the new Asiago’s goalie saved with a save percentage of 92.6% in 33 regular-season games and with the incredible average of 94.8% in 9 playoff games. Last season the KooKoo played in Liiga (first Finnish league), in which Cloutier proved to be a top level goalie saving the 91.9% of the shoots in 28 games played. In 2016 the Canadian got the Italian passport, and Stefan Mair, Head Coach for the Italian National Team, called him to join the team at the World Championship in Poland, where Cloutier has alternated defending the net with Andreas Bernard.
Renato Tessari, Asiago Sport Director, is satisfied: "We had different options for this role, but when we had the opportunity to sign with Cloutier we grasped this chance.
